Apple Butter in the Crockpot (Print Version)

A slow-simmered preserve made with apples, sugar and cinnamon that develops rich flavor over 8-10 hours in your crockpot.

# Ingredients:

01 - 6 lbs apples, peeled and roughly chopped (Gala, Fuji, or Honeycrisp)
02 - 3 cups white sugar
03 - 2 teaspoons cinnamon
04 - 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

# Steps:

01 - Place the apples in the crockpot and top with sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cover with lid and set to HIGH. After a few hours, uncover, stir and continue cooking with the lid off.
02 - Continue simmering until the mixture is thickened and dark brown. Stir occasionally as needed to prevent sticking.
03 - When the liquid is absorbed, after 8-10 hours, blend until smooth using an immersion blender directly in the crockpot, or transfer the mixture to a blender to puree.
04 - Adjust thickness by leaving the apple butter in the crockpot on LOW and uncovered. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking to the sides. This process typically takes 30 minutes to 2 hours.
05 - When the apple butter reaches desired consistency, transfer immediately into sterile canning jars.

# Notes:

01 - This recipe yields enough apple butter to fill approximately four 8-ounce (1/2 pint) jars.
