Chicken Shawarma with Garlic Sauce (Print Version)

Juicy marinated chicken with aromatic spices and creamy garlic sauce - ready in just 60 minutes for an authentic Middle Eastern experience.

# Ingredients:

→ Chicken Shawarma

01 - 1.5 lbs boneless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into strips
02 - 2 tablespoons olive oil
03 - 2 teaspoons ground cumin
04 - 1 teaspoon ground paprika
05 - 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
06 - 1 teaspoon ground coriander
07 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
08 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
09 - 1 tablespoon lemon juice
10 - Salt and black pepper to taste

→ Garlic Sauce

11 - 1 cup mayonnaise
12 - 2 tablespoons minced garlic
13 - 1 tablespoon lemon juice
14 - Salt to taste

# Steps:

01 - In a large bowl, combine olive oil, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, cinnamon, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Add the chicken strips and marinate for at least 30 minutes (up to overnight for deeper flavor).
02 - Preheat your grill or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Add a few drops of oil to prevent sticking and enhance browning.
03 - Place the marinated chicken in the preheated pan or grill. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 75°C.
04 - In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Adjust to taste, adding more garlic for an extra kick if desired.
05 - Allow the cooked chicken to rest for a few minutes, then slice into bite-sized pieces. Serve in pita bread or on a plate, drizzled generously with the garlic sauce. Accompany with fresh vegetables, pickled turnips, or a simple salad.

# Notes:

01 - For a vegetarian option, substitute the chicken with marinated mushrooms or tofu.
02 - You can use Greek yogurt instead of olive oil for a creamier marinade texture.
03 - For a lighter garlic sauce, swap mayonnaise with Greek yogurt or silken tofu.
